Berlena for NMRRC District 2 Director

I am excited to have a way to show how much I want to serve District 2 members!

 My name is Berlena Reynolds and I was born and raised in Southern California. My husband is Greg and I have two gorgeous kids, Olivia and Mossimo(visit my family).  I am 35 years old and have raised rabbits for a total of 15 years.  I started with Rex and when I got back into rabbits in 2005 I went right into Mini Rex. 

 When I was a kid I very much enjoyed being a part of the local 4-H club and held various offices within the club. When I got to high school, I was FFA Secretary for 2 years, then Vice-President and then my senior year I held the office of President.  

 Why do I love raising rabbits?  I've always loved showing animals. I've shown horses, dairy cows, sheep, pigs, poultry and of course rabbits since I was a kid in 4-H.  Showing rabbits is a hobby for everyone!  It is relatively cheap to raise and show in this fancy. I've met breeders in every income bracket.  The challenge of breeding the best rabbit is so much fun. Doesn't take more than a few months to see the results of your latest breeding pairing. How many of you lay in bed at night trying to sleep, thinking of the next breeding combination you want to do? Thinking of how to improve on type, fur or color?  How many times have you heard a great name for that next great rabbit and made sure to add it to your list? When I am stressed out in life, it so calming to think my breeding program.

 Why do I love Mini Rex?  Mainly the competition!  You really have to be on your toes to succeed.  You can usually count on a lot of really good competition.  It so much more rewarding when you do win! I truly enjoy going to the shows.  I don't usually win the top prize but I did get to see my breeder friends.....I got to see someone win and appreciate that wonderful feeling they are having! I get to see that breeder working on a variety that not many people have and see their progress. I got to talk to an experienced breeder and ask their advice and ask them what they thought of my rabbits. 

The breed is just beautiful....one of my very favorite things is to be at the county fair and asking people to come over and touch a Mini Rex.  You always get that gasp! Ooohing and ahhhing over the luxurious coat. 

Why do I want to be your District 2 Director?  I want to be your voice....relaying the majority wishes of my district when it comes to Board matters. I have the desire to make our club the best in the ARBA. Mini Rex are the most popular breed in the U.S. we should have a club that matches.  

 My goals are:

Accessibility - Members will feel free to contact me via phone, email, or in person at the many shows I attend.

 FUN! 

Communication - Keeping members informed of what is happening with the club.  Create discussions about business at hand and get a general feeling of what the members need. 

 FUN! 

Youth - Helping our youth stay informed about the breed and helping them as much as I can. Connecting a youth breeder with a open breeder for mentoring. Recognizing their achievements. Encouraging them to apply for NMRRC scholarships.  

 FUN! 

Promoting Mini Rex - Continuing the success of this breed and this club we need to attract new breeders and members.  Welcome new breeders and helping them be successful by giving tips on how to breed, condition and show Mini Rex.
